Taekwondo Gold Belt Techniques
Knowledge of the following stances, hand techniques, and foot techniques are required for a gold belt in Taekwondo. The following written instructions explain how to perform the various moves.
Stances:
Fixed Stance: The feet are perpendicular to each other. Similar to the L-stance except a foot's length longer. The front foot faces forward. Both knees are bent and directly over the ankles. The rear foot determines the stance.
Hand Techniques:
Outer Forearm Block: To execute a right arm outer forearm block in a right walking stance to the north, begin in a left walking stance to the west with the left upper arm against the side of your body and the left elbow bent 90 degrees with the left fist palm side down. The right wrist will be touching where the bend is in the left arm and the palm of the right fist will be pointed up. Start moving the right arm and rotating the right wrist so that the right fist ends up in line with the right shoulder with the palm pointing north or away from you to make the block with the outer edge (pinky side) of the right forearm. The right elbow should be bent 90 degrees with the right fist at shoulder height with the palm facing away from the shoulder. While the right arm is moving the left fist should be rotating and moving to the south to end up beside the left hip at the time of the block with the palm side up. The feet should be pivoting while both arms are moving so that they end up in a right walking stance to the north at the time of the block.
Wedging Block: To execute a wedging block in a right walking stance to the north, begin in a parallel stance to the west with the upper arms against the sides of your body and the wrists crossed in front of your chest with the right wrist on the outside. Both elbows should be bent 90 degrees and the palms of both fists should be facing towards you and at shoulder height. Start moving the right foot to the north and away from your body. As the right foot lands in a right walking stance to the north your wrists should uncross to make the block. Both elbows should be bent 90 degrees and the palms of both fists should be facing away from you and at shoulder height and shoulder width apart.
Back Fist: To execute a right arm back fist in a right walking stance to the north, begin in a left walking stance to the west with the left upper arm against the side of your body and the left elbow bent 90 degrees with the left fist palm side down. The right wrist will be touching where the bend is in the left arm and the palm of the right fist will be pointed up. Start moving the right arm and rotating the right wrist so that the back of the right fist strikes the target with the right arm almost straight with just a slight bend at the elbow. The palm of the right fist should be pointing west or away from the target. While the right arm is moving the left fist should be rotating and moving to the south to end up beside the left hip at the time of the strike with the palm side up. The feet should be pivoting while both arms are moving so that they end up in a right walking stance to the north at the time of the strike.

At the same time, the left upper arm should be against the side of your body and the left elbow bent 90 degrees with the left fist palm side down. The right wrist will be touching where the bend is in the left arm and the palm of the right fist will be pointed up. Continue spinning clockwise on the left foot while moving the right arm and rotating the right wrist so that the back of the right fist strikes the target with the right arm almost straight with just a slight bend at the elbow. The palm of the right fist should be pointing west or away from the target. While the right arm is moving the left fist should be rotating and moving to the south to end up beside the left hip at the time of the strike with the palm side up. In addition, the right foot should land in a right walking stance to the north at the same time as the strike.
